Today was my first overseas birthday. Let’s go shopping!

My roommates and I went to Fair Oaks Mall, I got a first cultural shock in U.S. . I wanted to buy a boy size cloth to my friend, but I was not sure the size made from U.S., so I asked a store assistance’s size. In expectation, he will give me his size to help my decision, but he just gave me “It’s too big for me.” I am sure he was very friendly and glad to help me, but he didn’t want to tell me his small detail.

I remember when I was a senior student, my English teacher told us that American really care and will protect their privacy, even a small, small thing. Today I experienced a lesson at first hand!

Gap year

I learned this word from my home stay family.

This is my first time to hear this concept, it is so different from Taiwan to America. In Taiwan, we usually have no “gap” in our life journal, we go to junior high school, senior and university by no thinking, we need to decide our next step when you in the 2 or 3 grades of college, and prepare to do it. When you finish or before you finish your education on June, you need to find your future job right away.

Sometimes some people will change their job or quit their master education after short period, because some people did not have time and space to know what is they really wanted, I think American have a good concept and attitude about gap year.
